How SpeakCanada AI handles speaking practice, recordings, transcripts, reports, and account data.

Last updated: 2026-07-13

01

What we collect

Account email, practice prompts, uploaded recordings, transcripts, AI scoring reports, bookmarks, and personal speaking examples. Open practice recordings stay on your device and are not uploaded.

02

Device and diagnostic data

We generate a random app-specific device identifier and process limited request metadata, error codes, latency, and feature events to prevent free-limit abuse, protect the service, account for service cost, and improve reliability. When PostHog is enabled, it receives allowlisted feature events and an HMAC-pseudonymized account identifier only; it does not receive recordings, transcripts, prompts, reports, personal examples, email, or IP addresses. We do not read an advertising identifier or use this data for advertising or cross-app tracking.

03

How we use it

We use this data to transcribe French answers, generate CEFR-style practice feedback, keep review history, recommend related prompts, and protect the service.

04

Third-party processing

Speech-to-text, LLM scoring, payments, error monitoring, and observability may be processed by third-party providers. They should receive only what is needed to provide the service.

05

Cross-border processing

AI scoring and French-example rewriting use LLM and speech providers located in the United States and Canada. When the primary provider is unavailable, transcript text and example content may instead be processed by a provider located in China (Zhipu GLM). Using AI scoring means you consent to this cross-border processing; you can also use free on-device practice without triggering AI scoring.

06

Retention and deletion

Successful AI-scoring audio is deleted after processing. Failed or retryable audio may be stored encrypted for up to 7 days. Reports and transcripts remain for review until you delete an individual report or your account.

07

Model training

SpeakCanada AI does not use your recordings or transcripts to train its own models. Third-party processors handle only the data needed to provide the service under their service terms.

08

Non-official notice

SpeakCanada AI is not an official France Éducation international product. Prompts are non-official TCF-style practice organized around recurring speaking themes.
